I doubt if it will be as cut and dry as that.  I see several potential issues that may still arise with the city.  First and formost, our ability to even privatize an existing neighborhood within city limits.  My theory is that the suggestion of a gate was met with the off the cuff suggestion that we would now have to pay for all our own street manitenance and privatize our neighborhood and that would be enough of a deterrant for us to drop that thought.  If we were to persue this as an actual option, we would have a whole sleu of new reasons why that cannot be achieved.  Don't forget about streetlights!  Or are they county owned and maintained?  I don't recall.  I honestly do not mean to sound negative, just playing devil's advocate here.  I have personally had enough dealings with the city to have developed a gut feeling here.  I owned a business for 11 years in this town.  You learn a thing or two.  A new subdivision = new money for the city.  The builder basically has the upper hand here.

I agree.  There is more here than meets the eye.  What happens if we try it, it doesn't work for whatever reason(s), then what?  We will be stuck paying taxes to the City for services not rendered and then who know what the Annual Assessment fees (dues) will end up being!  Having worked with cities before, this is not a "voila" situation!  What's the old saying, "You can't fight City Hall"!

I hate to give up but I agree. City Hall seems pretty determined and "you can't fight city hall" is a saying for a reason. They almost seemed surprised that so many of us were opposed to the new street/cut through our subdivision. Cry

You don??™t call the city of Wentzville for a dead streetlight; you call Amren (sp) or Spire now. How much of your taxes go to your own street services as opposed to police, fire, common roads, lights, schools etc. etc. Ok, never mind. (probably $40) If you never ask the answer is ALWAYS no. I will ask. I will personally speak to Douglas Forbeck he has asked me to call and set things up. He can give us the official dos and don??™t, the advantages vs disadvantages etc. I??™ll let every know. I do count this as strange. I have yet to speak with anyone (appx 20 neighbors) who isn??™t all for getting the politicians, road traffic, lowered home values and the blatant plague of McBride running roughshod over OUR peaceful little circle, except on this blog. Sorry, but I??™m a veteran. When shot at, expect accurate return fire. I will try, I will NOT lay down like a Frenchman and accept whatever comes without at least trying. Dale
